The same study said that use of classified ad sites has increased faster than almost every other online activity, including online banking, travel booking, and shopping on ecommerce sites like Amazon.com.
Since craigslist gets about 93% of all traffic to classified ad sites (with about 46.5 million visitors, according to ComScore)
Some more interesting statistics in this study are that classified ad sites are generally used by a younger demographic, typically between ages 18 and 49, with most users being college graduates with an annual income above $50,000.
Many reporters covering this study have stated that craigslist appears to be enjoying a level of popularity that eBay did during its growth years; and I would tend to agree. (I often call craigslist®: “eBay’s little brother”!)
So here’s my latest Craigslist success tip:
“Even though eBay is the well-established 900 pound gorilla in the e-commerce world, don’t ignore craigslist as an excellent source of low cost products to resell”
Just as I teach you in “How To eBay Your Way To Fast Cash” video training, I currently have a variety of different ads on craigslist.
One of the products that I advertise for is a health-related product that people with this health issue have many extra boxes of.
I’ve been able to buy dozens of these boxes for as little as $5 to $10 each using my craigslist ad, and sell them on eBay for as much as $25 each. (for a 150% to 400% profit!)
Recently, I purchased a collectible skateboard from one of my craigslist ads. This skateboard was actually used in a recent movie and was collectible both as a movie prop, and as a piece of skateboarding history.
I bought the skateboard for $125 on craigslist and sold it for $250 on eBay!
I could go on and on with examples of how I’ve successfully used craigslist to buy products low and turn around and sell them for much more on eBay. And remember, this is just one of the craigslist techniques that I teach in “How To eBay Your Way To Fast Cash”!

As you may already know from checking out my “How To eBay Your Way To Fast Cash” video training, my main business on eBay involves selling vintage Hot Wheels cars and related accessories.
But recently, I decided to test a new product on eBay. I found this product wholesale, using the same exact product sourcing techniques I teach in my system!
Initially, I did my presale research to determine how the top sellers in this particular niche were doing to get great prices for their software. I then listed this new software product, using a variety of different listing formats, because I wanted to find out for myself what the best format was for this particular product. (I tested an auction listing, a fixed-price listing, an eBay Stores listing and even an eBay Classified Ad listing)
In the process of testing this new product on eBay, I also tried a variety of different listing upgrades, such as Border, Gallery Plus, Featured Plus and Featured First. (Note: as of 6-21-11, some of these upgrades no longer exist)
What I discovered (at least for this particular product) was that a “Good ‘Til Canceled” fixed-price listing using the Featured First and Gallery Plus listing upgrades was clearly the best of all worlds, generating eight sales in two days!
Prior to this, utilizing only a fixed-price listing and perhaps a Featured Plus listing upgrade, I was generating about one sale a day. So this is a vast improvement over that!
I would’ve never known about this massive improvement, had I not tested several different selling formats, and several different listing upgrades…
It’s really exciting to see sale after sale pop into my email (and my PayPal account!) over a two-day period.
I believe one of the differences between an average eBay seller and a high-level eBay Powerseller is that the high-level Powerseller is willing to test and experiment with their marketing to improve their results.
They don’t just leave well enough alone and list their items on eBay like everyone else, they are constantly striving to improve the speed of their sales, as well as the profitability of their sales.
So when you find a new product that’s a winner for you, be sure to list it in a variety of ways – using different formats and different listing upgrades. Keep track of which is which, by using the “Notes” feature in your My eBay page. (Your My eBay page allows you to place a note below each active listing.
By indicating in your note the type of listing upgrade or the type of marketing technique that you are using for that particular listing, you can easily track which marketing technique is performing best with a simple glance at your My eBay page.

Often, when watching a reality TV show, you have to wonder how much of it is “real” and how much of it is scripted.
The new Storage Wars TV show (on A & E) is one of those that has a lot of people wondering.
It seems a little hard to believe that you could find so many exciting treasures that are worth so much money in a simple, abandoned storage unit.
But you know what? I’ve been buying at storage auctions for almost 9 years now and I’ve found my share of high profit collectibles, too!
In fact, just the other day I sold an unused ticket to the 1962 Rose Bowl game that I had acquired in a storage auction a few years ago and never sold. I dug up a few more items from storage unit auctions I had bought in the past and listed them. I was shocked when this one ticket sold for over $180! (I had already made $4,100 on all the other things out of that unit back then, so this item was just “gravy”! Storage unit auctions are the gift that keep on giving!)Because of storage auctions, I’ve turned a $350 unit into $4,400 by flipping the items on eBay and craigslist.

In some of my eBay seminars and workshops, I’ve taught a simple version of “ebay arbitrage”.
Arbitrage is an economic term that is defined as:
The practice of taking advantage of a price difference between two or more markets.
Put simply, it means buying low in one market and selling higher in another market. (for example, you might buy an item on eBay and resell it on Amazon.com)
On eBay, there are various ways to do this. For example, you can search eBay titles for misspelled items. When you do this, you are benefiting from the fact that the misspelled item will not show up in eBay’s search results when someone types in the correct spelling for that item.
Buy these items up and resell them with correct spellings and you’ve just made money!
Another arbitrage technique is to buy lots. A lot is simply a group of identical items. By buying a lot on eBay, you can get a better deal because the only people bidding on that lot are resellers and there are less of them on eBay than there are of consumer buyers for that item.
Buying lots is a good way to make money on eBay but there are even more advanced arbitrage strategies.
For example, if you know what to look for, you can seek out listings that have been mis-listed. (meaning the sellers have left out crucial information from the title or the description in their listings) When you find an item that has been mis-listed, you can go ahead and buy that item, and then relist it correctly, thus making the full amount possible on that item.
Before you dismiss this as some penny-ante technique, understand that you can do this with high-end items and be profiting to the tune of hundreds of dollars per item by reinvesting your profits into bigger and better items.
When you take this strategy and use it on various websites, such as craigslist, Amazon and eBay, now you can begin to use arbitrage at the next level.

It doesn’t seem to be built in an intuitive way for most people.

Storage Wars, (the new reality-show about four modern-day treasure hunters who buy the contents of abandoned storage units at auction) made it’s debut last night on A & E and I was impressed by how the TV show portrayed the storage auction business.
Although Storage Wars is a 30-minute show, (just like its competitor “Auction Hunters” on Spike TV) the debut show seemed to pack more quality content into those 30 minutes than Auction Hunters does.
I’ve been buying storage units for about 11 years now and I like the way Storage Wars shows people actually working – emptying out storage units, moving large furniture, sorting through things to find the valuable items, etc.
It also shows that to be in “the game” in a serious way – to make the really big money – you need to be set up in assembly-line fashion to be able to process the sheer volume of stuff you’re going to get when you win a few of these auctions!
Storage Wars is a more diversified show, too. It showcases 4 different people who are involved in the storage auction “game” and really has a chance to show the different personalities of each.
This is a good thing because it allows for the audience to relate to these treasure hunters in a variety of different ways.
In this debut episode, we get to meet the individual players and see their bidding strategy, how they bid (or don’t) and also learn a little bit about their colorful personalities. One of the treasure hunters, Darrell Sheets, shares his story of buying a unit that contained over a hundred thousand dollars worth of comic books. If you’re watching closely, you will also pick up some great storage auction tips and tricks from the top dogs themselves!
Dan Dotson, the auctioneer, (whose wife Laura is also in the show) is an affable guy who won’t hesitate to tell you about the many storage units he’s found (or that he’s heard of) and the many treasures that lie there, waiting for someone to bid on them and re-discover them.
I’ve actually met Dan and had a chance to speak with him at a few of the auctions I attended in Southern California early on and can vouch for him – he’s a really nice guy.
So, as much as I like Auction Hunters (I really like the excitement of the great finds and the personalities of Allan and Ton) I am going to have to say that Storage Wars is a better show because it has a little more variety and also shows more of the reality of the storage auction game.
It shows people winning at storage auctions and people losing at storage auctions and that’s a heck of a lot more realistic than only showing the “wins”.
Even though Auction Hunters clearly describes the fact that they are showcasing some of the duo’s best finds, in light of the Storage Wars show, because it only shows the wins, it seems just a little more contrived than Storage Wars.
Either way, I am excited to see ALL of these modern-day treasure hunters being portrayed on TV – I’ve always thought of storage unit auctions as one of the last great treasure hunts available to eBay sellers and now it’s being shown on TV.

Pawn Stars has been a hit on History Channel for three seasons now and the cast is an entertaining bunch of characters.
This is a serious case of “truth being stranger than fiction”… You couldn’t cast a more entertaining and fun-loving crew if you tried!
The items that are brought in are exciting and there is also a cool educational factor to it as we learn of the origin and history of the items that are brought in.
I believe the reason the Pawn Stars TV show is a hit is a combination of factors.
While at first glance it may seem that it’s just a cable TV show about a pawn shop, there are so many different things going on under the surface that bear mentioning.
- The good-natured personalities that make up the main Pawn Stars cast and the hilarious exploits they get into.
- The items that are brought in have their own “personality”, history and provenance – for those who are not as interested in the personalities of the Pawn Stars cast, the items themselves lend themselves to a flight of imagination – imagining what you would do if you owned a rare or valuable item.
- The various experts that are called on to give their experienced opinion on the rare items that are brought in. This keeps the show interesting for those who aren’t as enamored of the Pawn Stars cast.
- The back and forth negotiation between Rick Harrison, the Old Man or Big Hoss and the person who brought an item in to sell or pawn. This is actually an excellent lesson in the skills of negotiation. As you can see in each episode, the negotiation follows a specific pattern and you can see it happen over and over again so you are actually learning to negotiate as you watch the show.
- The field trips that are taken to test out a gun, drive a 4 x 4 in the desert or look at a collection. This makes for a good break from the Pawn Shop antics!
- Chumlee could be a TV show all by himself!
As you watch the show, there always seem to be surprising ad lib moments of hilarity – the guys seem to be having fun even in those moments when things get tense and anxious.
You get the sense that there’s nothing these guys would rather be doing than making deals and counting money!
